Founder's Corner

Happy first week of May.

It's been a wild one for us. Our son turns 5 this weekend, on Mother’s Day no less, so we're feeling a lot.

There's something about the 5-year mark that feels momentous. Not just the number, but the way kids grow and change at this age. The questions are getting deeper. The emotions are maturing. The language is getting easier to understand.

And yet, every time I start feeling like they're growing up too fast, I pick them up with tears in their eyes and remember they're still babies in the world, with so much growth to come.

Heather & I are both very nostalgic people. We appreciate that the days are fleeting. We decorate our house with pictures of our family history, and talk about it often. And at the same time, we recognize how important it is to live in the present. It isn't always easy with all the chaos and stress, but we're as intentional as we can be about appreciating every moment while it's right there in front of us.

It's the same instinct behind the brand and the products we've spent two decades making. From our Grateful Every Day and These Are The Good Ol' Days designs, to heritage products like our blankets and hammocks, that encourage you to slow down, cozy up, and disconnect from the speed and chaos of everything around us.

But here's what this week reminded me: slowing down isn't about stopping time. It's about being present enough to notice it move.

The Trek Light brand is a reflection of who we are as people, and that's exactly why it's evolved so much over the years.

In 2003, I was selling hammocks from a booth at the Boulder Creek Festival. That guy isn't the same person writing this to you 23 years later. And Trek Light is no longer a niche hammock company, but a lifestyle brand making products for you, and everyone in your home.

I'm eternally grateful that you, as customers, friends, and family, have all given us the freedom to keep evolving. It's one of the best gifts you can give to the people in your life.

And, as we head into the weekend, I want to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to Heather, my Mom, and every incredible mom out there. You're heroes. And you’re doing the most important work there is.

- Seth

Two For The Moms

While we're on the topic, we just launched two brand new hats made for the moms in your life.

The Mama Hat. Denim (naturally), a golden heart, and a beautiful way to wear your Mama pride loud and proud.

The Mama Tried Hat. Lightning, roses, and a little something extra for all the rockstar moms doing their best.

Both are on preorder, with estimated shipping at the end of May. They won't make it under the wrapping paper this Sunday, but we all know Mother's Day doesn't live in a 24-hour window.

Heather’s been wearing these around town while prototyping the samples, and I’ve watched her fielding the “Where did you get that?” questions everywhere she goes.

We only have 50 of each for the preorder launch, so grab them before they sell out!

From Our Table To Yours

Ultra-Gooey Stovetop Mac and Cheese Recipe

Here's a little secret about Heather (not-so-secret if you know her): she loves Mac and Cheese.

Most people treat Mac and Cheese like an afterthought, the thing out of a box when you need a quick side. Heather isn't most people.

When we first started dating, I made it my mission to find a recipe that could earn her cheesy respect, and this is the one. It comes together fast, cooks in a single pan, and the flavor scales with whatever cheeses you've got on hand.

When I make this for Heather, it has the same effect as a filet mignon candle-lit dinner (sometimes I do both), and that makes me a lucky guy.

What We're Listening To

Greatest Hits, Vol I & II
Billy Joel

Since this week is all about Moms, this one's for mine.

There are a lot of artists my parents listened to growing up, and a lot of my music appreciation stems from the concerts they took me to and the music that was always on at home and in the car. Different artists trigger different memories, but Billy Joel is the one that sticks with me most of all.

I can remember my mom listening to Billy Joel just about as far back as I can remember. And (somewhat) more recently, when my mom first got an Alexa device at home, I’m 99% sure that “Alexa, play Billy Joel” may have been the only thing she ever used it for. Rightfully so.

Like any legendary artist, you don’t need to seek out a specific album, but Greatest Hits Vol I & II is a pretty great place to start. You can listen to Billy Joel on shuffle for hours, or you can let the algorithm take over and know that Billy Joel Radio will always take good care of you.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom, here’s some Billy Joel for you if you weren’t already listening.
