Founder's Corner

Two weeks in a row? Don't look now, but the Weekly Light is living up to its name again.

Father's Day is a week from Sunday, and it has me thinking about the most famous dad answer of all time: "I don't need anything."

Every dad says it. My dad said it. And now I catch myself saying it too.

For most of my life, I figured it was just dads being impossible to shop for. Now that I'm on the other side of the question, I finally understand the answer.

It was never a deflection, it's the truth.

By the time Father's Day rolls around each year, most dads already have the thing they wanted most. What they're really asking for is a slow morning with the people they love, a good meal, and if the stars align, an uninterrupted hammock nap.

To all the dads reading this: Happy almost Father's Day. You've earned the nap.

- Seth

P.S. I know I bragged about my little writing streak, but I'm just going to call it now: I’m taking next week off from writing so I can enjoy an extended Father’s Day weekend camping and rafting with a great group of friends and family.

Enjoy your week, and don’t forget to use the comment section, I want to hear from you!

From Our Table To Yours

Strawberry Summer Cake

Strawberry season is here, and this one’s a winner.

It's a classic Smitten Kitchen recipe, and it’s as simple as it comes.

Serve it warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, or have a slice with your coffee the next morning. No judgment here.

Product Spotlight

Father's Day, Handled

Father's Day is Sunday, June 21st, and we've got gifts for every dad, in stock and shipping right now.

For the dad who fishes (or just naps near the water), may we present the Trout Lover Gift Set.

The new gift set includes our bestselling Double Hammock in the River Trout print, our quick-dry Trout Tea Towel (which works great as a hand towel when out fishing), the Trout Hat, and a 16oz Enamel Trout Mug.

Even better, the Trout Lover Bundle is 20% off for a limited time.

Not a trout family? (Yes, that's weird to write)

Many of our hats are back in stock after months of sellouts, including dad-approved favorites like Take Me To The River, the Howdy hat, Grateful Every Day, and the Happiest Camper. And for the really cool dads - the Let's Get Weird Hat.

If your dad is the truly impossible-to-shop-for type, you can't go wrong with a simple, and affordable hammock gift. Our classic Aqua & Charcoal Double Hammock is still on closeout sale for only $58, with our Pro Hanging Straps included.

What We're Listening To

Pet Sounds
The Beach Boys

One year ago this week, we lost Brian Wilson.

I know last week's pick was also a memorial of sorts, but this was another one I couldn't ignore.

Pet Sounds turned 60 last month. It's been written about, dissected, and ranked at or near the top of every greatest-albums list ever made. Which, for some reason, makes it easy to file away as a form of homework, and never actually press play.

So here's my question for you: when was the last time you listened to it? Not a song in a commercial, not a few hits on shuffle. The whole album, front to back, with nothing else going on.

If the answer is "never" or "I can't remember", I think you're in for the best 36 minutes of your week.

Pet Sounds starts with "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and just keeps climbing from there. And when "God Only Knows" arrives, you'll understand why Paul McCartney (my ‘Final Boss’, if you remember Volume 4) has called it the greatest song ever written, and says it still reduces him to tears.

Same, Paul. Same.

Quote of the Week

"God only knows what I'd be without you."

- Brian Wilson & Tony Asher, God Only Knows (1966)
